THE DANCER

The dancer raised herself up on her toes
plié, heels down, arose, looked to the sound of the music
which swept through her like the wind crossing an open plain
chose a classic pose
step, smooth , step, up, lifted arms, spun, leg up, lift,
hand curled fingers moving with the sounds that brought her to her feet
gentle dancer drunk with the music, drunk with sound,
drunk with the feel of her body as it moved beneath the lights
her gown glistened before the crowd, plié, step, leg up and bow,
she looked down at the floor and spun into the waiting arms
of her partner who lifted her high so high she could have touched the clouds
and oh how her love for it all melted inside her and she was one with all
with every beat, every note, every step, beauty swept,
and the music swirled and the lights danced upon the jewels in her hair
and rapture, rapture burst her heart with joy at the sound
while rose petals fell all around
all around and covered the ground
